To Be or Not To Be

I’d been so careful. I had planned everything. Meticulous lists were made, with every item crossed off. I plotted backstories, kept a misleading diary, did everything right. I thought. But it seems you really can’t plan for everything when you’re staging your own tragic death.

It came as quite a shock when I actually died.

Worry

"I have no doubt, in a few years you’ll look at your amazing life and wonder how you got there."

"Maybe, but what am I supposed to do in the meantime?"

"Read, learn, exercise. The days will fly by. No worries."

But as the door shut and she was alone in her cell, she worried.

Too Soon

I feel faint,” was all she said. He rushed over to where she sat on the couch to help her, as he had done every time she needed him since she'd lost the use of her legs. He laid her down and then, as she lay in his arms, she took her last breath.

Chinook

Blowing gentle warmth
Comforting, welcome reprieve
From frosty winter

Shattered

He always kept his anger hidden – until he couldn't. Then it would explode with undeniable force. Last time his wrath fell upon the furniture, and the only injuries were to the wall, the books and a shattered heart-shaped glass box. If my own heart were made of glass, it would have shattered long ago.

Storm

Swirling, tumbling clouds.
Rain pours down as wind bellows.
Thunder booms. Lights out.

Medicated

That sort of all-encompassing bliss doesn't come along often or last very long so I was determined to enjoy every second of it. I wasn't medicated very much or very long, but it was enough to notice a difference when I stopped. Emotions are much more tangible again. I hope the doctors don't find out...

Alternatives

Yes. No. Maybe so.
Many choices to be made
and paths to follow.

Pressure

I feel it building...
If I'm not careful I'll crack
Breathe and take it slow

Fresh

Starting fresh (again)
in a new house and new town.
Some things never change.

Morning dew glistens
Reminding me: a new day
a fresh beginning.

The 3:15 Experiment 2012

The following pieces were written as part of The 3:15 Experiment (2012).  The number represents the date it was written.

3.

Raw with beauty
she tripped,
staggering down the path
of broken dreams.

4.

On a long lonely road walked a girl.  She passed the pub - full of light, warmth and hospitality but did not go in.

Sadness consumed her.

5.

Beauty & pain
collide
in neverending astonishment
holding out hope
for a world
filled with love

6. (Still awake. Packing. Moving tomorrow.)

Freshness envelopes me
the promise of a new beginning
tantalizing me
hope wakes within me
the promise of a new beginning
burdens me
fears quake around me
the promise of a new beginning
is me

7.

Lessons learned

8.

lightening burst forth
a colourful rainbow
of
magnificence.

10.

The cat waited in the shadows, purring softly, waiting for the right moment to pounce, strike - leaving nothing.

11.

And she leapt forth drinking in her surroundings.  Never had she seen such beauty.  But then, fear does make all your senses more available.  Always the fear of loss makes a thing so much more appealing.

13.

Her body longed for his
touch
wanting, needing
building.
Loving.

14.

insects beneath the floorboards [chand]

20.

The incandescent glow
of the afterlife
soothes me
embodies me
fills me
with longing and despair.
A new hope is needed.
Carry On.

21.

molton rock
bleeding from the
earth's surface
nowhere to run
nowhere to hide
only assimilation
will make it amenable

22.

listlessly, she floated
the water lapping delicately
at her feet.
She looked up into the bright sun
surrounded by water
How can she get to shore
if she can't swim?

23.

I carry my voice
to the sun
Goddess? I whisper
but there is nothing
I must maintain my vigil
waiting for the Goddess
of Light
to deem me worthy

24.

darkness
awash in terror
where flies the night
into what void meaning?
banish the darkness
fill my void with light
and meaning.

25.

stray cat
voice box
purple box

earwig
manilla folder
candle holder

circumvention

fellatio

polar bears
fallen logs
muddy hogs

simple thoughts

26.

snow sweeps gently
downhill
as she walks
her eyes sting in the cold
& it's hard to breathe
her eyelashes are frozen
just like his heart.

27.

when morning comes
and the skies have changed their hue
look for me in the night sky
and I will look for you

Across the skies, between the stars
my love envelops all
it travels forth in dark or light
past the confines of these walls.

29.

creativity's gentle caress
lands on my shoulder
when will they see me?
when will the [illegible] (c)over?

31.

Thoughts & feelings
shared
unconditional love
deep & true

Star Light, Star Bright

The stars twinkled around her.  To pass the time, she tried to identify the constellations out the window: Cassiopeia, Perseus, Andromeda.  If they would turn just a little bit to starboard, she could see Jupiter.  Instead, they turned to port and the space station loomed up, blocking her view of the stars.  Home at last!
